WinterABC2021 Day 14- 360 Revolution

Happy Friday my readers🤗😊

The first time I was a participant in a  Zoom meeting was during the first COVID-19 lockdown last year. Technology enabled people in different places and different time zones to attend the same meeting.

I found online home worship to be relaxed and I have learnt that conducting church services does not necessarily mean that one has to be in church physically. The YouTube for Mandara SDA Church streams church programs and they even have midweek sermons. One of the things I do not like about online worship is that you will be in your home and you can’t meet with your churchmates physically. But it is better to take care of yourself and your health during the global pandemic.

Zoom meetings enabled organisations to cut on travelling costs and work continued to be done remotely.

During times of crisis and uncertainty, sometimes one needs someone to talk to. The Friendship Bench Zimbabwe offered free online counselling therapy and one had to book an appointment on a mobile number that was provided on the flyer. The introduction of online counselling sessions was a good idea since the lockdown had deprived people of their daily routines.

Online banking and mobile money transfers came to the rescue of many people during the lockdown when banks were closed. Parents received money for groceries from their children. People were able to make payments and order different products in the comfort of their homes.

The general public purchased mobile data to enable them to work from home, attend online classes or binge-watch their favourite series.

‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change “-Charles Darwin

WinterABC2021 Day 12- A girl’s favourite application

When I was in high school I hated my menstrual period because I had to wake up early and take a bath before the girls in my dormitory woke up. During the day I would be a bit tense because I dreaded standing up with a stained skirt or leaving a stain on my chair. The boys at my school would make fun of the girls who stained their school uniforms and it would dent the girl’s self-esteem.

The first menstrual period of some girls was filled with tears, anger, confusion and humiliation.

Fast forward to my years at university 🤗

*** I don’t remember seeing anyone with a stain on their clothes. Maybe some young women spoiled their clothes but it was less chaotic as compared to my high school experiences.

When I asked some of my WhatsApp contacts to share their secret they were grateful to have discovered the period tracker applications.  How I wish I had discovered the period tracker earlier but, even if l did cellphones were not allowed on the school’s premises. If I tried to mark my menstruation dates in my diary someone would steal it and read all my diary entries.

The ladies notified me that the period tracker is reliable and convenient.
*It is easy to use.
*It reminds them that their emotions and feelings are valid.
*They can even receive notifications on what time they should hydrate.
*If you are planning on having a baby the calendar will notify you of your less fertile days and your ovulation days.

My period tracker is one of my best friends and it has made me realize that some of the pain and the wave of emotions that I go through are not imaginary.  I have also noticed the patterns in my menstrual cycle and I am now aware of what l shouldn’t eat during my period. My period tracker has been helpful since the notifications remind me of when my period is due. I can wear comfortable clothes that do not make me feel like I am imprisoned and miserable because it is that time of the month.

Dear woman, smile the period tracker has got you!

WinterABC2021 Day 11-My shopping experiences

We are halfway through the AfroBloggers Winter Challenge and l am proud of every blogger who decided to take part. If you plan on giving up now look at how far you have come and trust me you are doing just fine.

I have met a lot of entrepreneurs and although they sold beautiful products l chose not to buy their products because of several reasons l have decided to share with you today.

Image from AfroBloggers

*There are three different prices for the same product depending on the means of the money that you will use. If you have the US$ you will pay a flat fee but if you have the RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) it has to be cash since they don’t accept bank transfers. Lastly, if you have mobile money (Ecocash) you will have to pay more. Unfortunately, most of the business owners do have the round figure for their products and if the dress costs $8.20 your change will be in Ecocash.

The entrepreneur might have the cosmetics that you need but the challenge is that they might not be willing to make deliveries.

With the different price ranges depending on the mode of money that you have if the product is a foodstuff or a toiletry l would prefer buying it in a supermarket.

There are a lot of entrepreneurs who are selling peanut butter, surface cleaners or toilet cleaners. The challenge is that they overprice their products and yet their containers or bottles are not the standard ones. It would be wiser for business owners to use standard containers when packaging their products.

Poor communications skills are the reasons why relationships and businesses fail. If someone is offering a service or selling a particular product they should learn to communicate with their prospective customers. When you cannot meet with your customer due to a tight schedule or family commitments it is better to communicate in advance.

WinterABC2021 Day 10- The beauty of Technology

Hello, my lovely readers I hope you had a restful weekend. Time flies when you are having fun, we are already in the third week of the AfroBloggers winter challenge. This week is Business and Technology week sit tight and let’s have some fun.

Image from Afrobloggers

When I was in high school during the school holidays I used to write my stories in my notebook. When I went back to boarding school my little sister would tear off the pages or leave the book lying around. I had been procrastinating about creating a blog for some years but when I finally made the bold move I haven’t regretted my decision.

Blogging has introduced me to numerous creatives around the world and I always learn something new after reading different blog posts. Unlike writing your story or paper that can easily be misplaced or get torn my stories and ideas are safer on my blog and anyone who has access to the link of my blog can read my published articles.

Technology has enabled creatives to promote their work on social media and have a huge audience. Authors can now have virtual book launches on Zoom or other platforms with their readers who reside in different parts of the world.

Podcasters can upload episodes on their podcasts and the listeners can multitask while listening to an episode of their choice. One can watch an interview, documentary or a talk show on their favourite YouTube channel.

Musicians can have live concerts and entertain their audience although they cannot meet physically due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

If it wasn’t for technology we wouldn’t be having so much fun now reading blogs posts, listening to episodes on podcasts or watching the vlogs that are taking part in the AfroBloggers Winter Challenge.

Technology has been a blessing in the lives of creatives and I hope some creatives will agree with me😊

WinterABC 2021 Day 9 – Why should we practice self-care (3)?

It is very easy to lose yourself in the process of trying to please your readers, family members or colleagues. Sometimes you need to take a break from your busy lifestyle and get some rest. I hope that you are taking care of the person you see when you look in the mirror.

It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary.”- Mandy Hale

Have a restful weekend😊

WinterABC2021 Day 8: My dear friend

Image from

The fun continues and I am advocating for self-care. Are you taking care of yourself? If not you can start doing so today☺❤

It’s okay to :
-have good and bad days.
-express your emotions and feelings.
– be kind to yourself.
– do something that you love.
-smile and laugh more.
– ask for help.
-let go of toxic relationships.
-avoid pleasing everyone.
-to say no.
-to believe in yourself. -to learn something new. -to get some rest.

You deserve to be happy and if anything costs your happiness then it is too expensive.

WinterABC2021 Day 7 -Why should we practice self-care (2)?

Every day the world affords us a chance to learn something new. This week l am advocating for self-care because if we do not take care of ourselves no one will.

Image from

We can learn something from

*A song – Some songs are raising awareness for a certain issue and after listening to a particular song we are enlightened. To add on, some songs are good as a story and when you listen to a particular song you begin to sympathise with the singer and the characters in the song. When l listened to Masa Caroleen’s song Haagare l discovered that polygamy also means the same as chipare.

There are a lot of lessons that we can learn from nature and if you practice self-care you will agree with me. I adore the African sunset and the Baobab tree. The African sunset is beautiful and it offers us hope for a better day. The Baobab tree is strong, rooted and she survives during difficult times which include the drought. I am not perfect but l have made it my goal to take care of myself even when l am going through a difficult time. I named my blog after the Baobab because l am applying the tree’s traits in my life.

*Letting go of toxic friends
Some people are a part of our lives but they always have a way of bringing us down. It is better to let go of these people and surround yourself with people who appreciate you and are supportive.

*Read a book,
Reading is therapeutic. l find so much joy when l am reading African literature.

*Spoil yourself
Go out for lunch, change your wardrobe, prepare your favourite meal. If you are a  bookworm just walk into a bookstore and purchase a novel written by your favourite author.

WinterABC2021 Day6: Self-care winter warmers

As a follow up to my previous blog post l have decided to write another piece on self-care.

Image from

The temperatures are dropping and the winter nights in my hometown can be very cold. I do not need anyone to tell me to wear a warm jersey but it has become the norm to wear something warm. If l fail to keep warm I would have jeopardised my health and I might end up catching a cold.

Self-care helps us be conscious of our physical and mental health. When an individual practice self-care it becomes an individual’s duty to take care of their health. One can avoid eating foods that can affect their health. In my case, I cannot take fizzy drinks because I will end up have a running stomach and in some cases, I might throw up. I wouldn’t want to inflict pain on myself consciously and this is why I now take alternative drinks like fruit juices or concentrated drinks.

Resting is not sinful, allow yourself to get some rest and do not overwork. It is okay to have one lazy day per week😉.

During the winter season, the sunrise rises a bit late and it gets dark earlier as compared to the summer season. One should get enough sleep and continue to use the same sleeping routine that you used in the summer or you will spend the whole day yawning.

When an individual fails to take care of their personal hygiene people might end up avoiding you because of the body odour. This is why we should make it a habit to brush our teeth, take a warm bath, shave our pubic hair and wear clean clothes. When you look presentable you will feel good about yourself.

Attending the doctor’s appointment, counselling and taking our prescribed medication is of paramount importance.

Always remember that there is nothing shameful about taking care of yourself. Which is your favourite beverage during the winter season?

WinterABC2021 Day 5-Why should we practice self-care?

Image from Afrobloggers

Welcome to week two of AfroBloggers winter challenge, l hope you had a wonderful weekend and may this week be filled with laughter, achievements and answered prayers. This week l will be upholding self-care because when the COVID-19 pandemic hit l realised that it is important for an individual to take care of himself or herself.

The Oxford dictionary defines self-care as the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.

When you practice self-care you end up not expecting a lot from other people. As a people, we make mistakes and empty promises. When you practice self-care you realize that you can make mistakes too. You also learn that human beings are not perfect.

You are at your best when you are happy😊
When you are in a good space you begin to make good decisions and you are at peace with yourself even when things do not go your way.

Self-care helps one to be healthy be it physically or mentally because when you take care of yourself you avoid your anxiety triggers and you recognise the patterns in your emotions. When you are in a difficult situation you know how to cope and you avoid being stressed or miserable.

When you can take care of yourself you begin to appreciate other people’s sacrifices and efforts. You do not take someone’s act of kindness for granted and you can take care of others.

Always remember that self-care doesn’t make you a selfish human being but it teaches you to take care of yourself.
