WinterABC2021 Day 5-Why should we practice self-care?

Welcome to week two of AfroBloggers winter challenge, l hope you had a wonderful weekend and may this week be filled with laughter, achievements and answered prayers. This week l will be upholding self-care because when the COVID-19 pandemic hit l realised that it is important for an individual to take care of himself or herself.


WHAT IS SELF-CARE?
The Oxford dictionary defines self-care as the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.

WHY SHOULD WE PRACTICE SELF-CARE?

When you practice self-care you end up not expecting a lot from other people. As a people, we make mistakes and empty promises. When you practice self-care you realize that you can make mistakes too. You also learn that human beings are not perfect.

You are at your best when you are happy😊
When you are in a good space you begin to make good decisions and you are at peace with yourself even when things do not go your way.

Self-care helps one to be healthy be it physically or mentally because when you take care of yourself you avoid your anxiety triggers and you recognise the patterns in your emotions. When you are in a difficult situation you know how to cope and you avoid being stressed or miserable.

When you can take care of yourself you begin to appreciate other people’s sacrifices and efforts. You do not take someone’s act of kindness for granted and you can take care of others.

Always remember that self-care doesn’t make you a selfish human being but it teaches you to take care of yourself.
